Free income tax assistance available

REGION Free income tax assistance for middle- and low-income taxpayers is available from Feb. 1 to April 15 at various locations throughout the region. Walk-ins are welcome at the following locations:

* 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except Wednesday when assistance is available from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Broome County Library, 185 Court St., Binghamton. * 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Oakdale Mall, Johnson City. Assistance on Friday is only available until March 15.

* 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday at George F. Johnson Library, Park St., Endicott.

* 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal.

* 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday at Tioga State Bank, 1250 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal.

Tax preparation assistance for seniors is available at senior centers -- by appointment only -- from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

* Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 226 Clinton St., Binghamton. Call 797-2307 for an appointment.

* Feb. 15 and 20 at 14 Monument St., Deposit. For an appointment, call 467-3953.

* Tuesdays through Thursdays, 2801 Wayne St., Endwell. For an appointment, call 785-3427.

* Feb. 16 and 23 at 27 Golden Lane, Harpursville. For an appointment, call 693-2069.

* Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 30 Brocton Ave., Johnson City. For an appointment call 797-3145.

* From 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at Main Federated Church, Route 26, Maine. For an appointment, call 862-3387.

* Feb. 12, March 5 and 19 and April 2 at 12 Strongs Place, Whitney Point. For an appointment, call 692-3405.

* Tuesdays at Action for Older Persons, Inc., 30 West State St., Binghamton. For an appointment, call 722-1251.

Taxpayers are asked to bring all forms indicating federal income tax paid, including W-2s, as well as statements reflecting 2006 income and tax deductible expenses. A copy of 2005 tax returns and the social security numbers for all dependents are also required.
